Facebook’s 360 Video Plans

  |   Industry News

Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Facebook’s move to embrace 360 video during its annual developer conference in San Francisco. During his March 25th keynote address he explained the plan is for users to be able to enjoy an “immersive, 360-degree video experience” by way of their News Feed.

According to Facebook, the more than 1.3 billion people its on social network view more than 3 billion videos on the service each day. Now it hopes to push these users “inside” this new breed of video. The company has begun requesting third-party publishers create their own spherical videos for sharing across Facebook.

While a significant development for 360 video it is perhaps no surprise considering Facebook’s US$2bn acquisition of VR headset developer Oculus in March 2014.
